Hertford is the county town of Hertfordshire, and is situated about 30 miles / 50 kilometres north of London. Hertford is a traditional market town, that has retained much of its character. There are many well conserved buildings in the town centre, together with modern shops. The population is about 25,000 including a broad social and age-range mix. Local industry is buoyant; many people commute to London for work.
There are many other active churches in the town, as well as a wide range of thriving community activities.
The surrounding area is essentially rural, with historic towns such as Cambridge, Colchester and Bedford within easy reach. Other nearby towns include Ware, Harlow, Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City.
