When enough is enough Daniel 1
Dragged off to a foreign country, immersed in an alien culture, indoctrinated in the language and literature of the Babylonians, what chance do Daniel and his friends have of living uncompromisingly for God?
In this opening passage we learn how critical it is to identify a line beyond which we are not prepared to cross into compromise so as to maintain a vital faith in the living God in circumstances that are not of our choosing.
(Home groups focus on session 2 in the booklet please.)

Confident in Christ Philippians 1:1-11
This evening we start our series on the book of Philippians, looking at "Christ in us". From the opening line, Paul declares his total submission to Christ, calling himself Christ's servant (literally slave). But it is in verse 6 that Paul describes the basis of our confidence. It is God who works in us, past, present and future to bring us to that perfect hope in Christ Jesus. What a great encouragement that is to us all, and what a sound basis on which to begin our exploration of this letter.

Living in Christ Philippians 1:12-26
This passage explains that everything in Paul’s life serves one purpose - to “advance the Gospel” (v12). Nothing - not his circumstances, nor his reputation, nor his uncertain future - is allowed to interfere with that aim. The message for us is that whatever happens in life, God is in control and we should make the most of every situation to advance the Gospel.

A Disturbing Dream Daniel 2:1-49
Daniel and his friends find themselves under threat of death unless they can describe and interpret the King of Babylon's dream (12). After turning to God in prayer the mystery is revealed to Daniel in a vision (v19).
Through this inspiring passage we glimpse God's Sovereignty over world events, rulers and powers, and the foretelling that God himself will set up a kingdom that will never end (44). Bearing in mind this was written 600 years before Christ, no Christian should be discouraged, whatever the circumstances.
