More than a mission statement Luke 9:57-62
“Helping people follow Jesus” is more than a mission statement defining what this church is about. Each word is loaded with meaning, and, put into practice, is a catalyst for personal and community transformation.
6.30 pm – CAMEO service: Steve Fenton leading; John Moysey preaching
Ordinary people with extraordinary gifts Romans 16:1-16
At first sight this passage seems to be just a list of difficult names, but these were real people, active workers in the church. Paul knows each one by name, values their work for the Lord and has a personal word for each one. In these people we see qualities of love, service, loyalty, faithfulness and commitment, which challenge our own attitudes. If Paul had been sending greetings to Hertford Baptist Church, would he have said the same things about us?
Sunday 31 August

The Good Shepherd Psalm 23
Humans (like sheep) can be stubborn, prone to getting into scrapes, vulnerable to influences beyond our control and, without noticing, easily lose our way in life. When our familiar world becomes unrecognisable we need a shepherd to guide, provide and protect, one who can be trusted. Jesus declared, “I am the good shepherd”, and we can say with confidence, “I shall not want”, when first we can say, “The Lord is my Shepherd.”
6.30 pm – George & Margaret Colville will be leading the service
and speaking about their summer experiences in China and India.
Reaper’s Report Luke 10:1-10 & 17-21
This evening we have a chance to see glimpses of that “Spirit of the Lord” who chose Jesus, and through Him countless followers, to “bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to the captives, give sight to the blind and freedom to the oppressed; and the proclamation of the Lord’s saving power” (Luke 4:18-19).
