Sunday 1 August
am The rhetoric of God Exodus 6:1-8
David Lockwood
This passage contains a major statement by God after the centuries of Israelite bondage in Egypt. It is therefore not surprising that it should be cast in a rhetorical form that would reinforce both its significance and the key themes which it contains. Principles of power and promise are given to establish hope and freedom for the people of God.

pm “Something old, something new, something borrowed and something......” Luke 5:33-39
David Lockwood
As Jesus’ ministry draws the crowds, the religious leaders arrive from various places and begin to investigate who and what this ‘Jesus’ is doing. Observing his encounters with those considered ‘unclean’ and seeing his disciples act contrary to what they understand, questions begin to arise. The response Jesus gives challenges us to the core in regards to our lifestyle and whether we allow the newness of life to impact us or do we hold on to the old familiar patterns?
Sunday 15 August
am “The ongoing fight” Exodus 17: 8-16
David Lockwood
There are many parallels in the Christian life and the Exodus that highlight the connections between the old and the new covenants, and God’s story of salvation. As pilgrims, like those freed from the Egyptian oppression, we encounter opposition along the way. In this passage, as well as in the New Testament, we discover what it takes to defeat the enemy in order to press on.
