9.15 and 11.00 am - David Collett leading and Steve Fenton preaching on our church text for 2008
From God’s perspective - Philippians 3:1-14
Paul encourages his people to always see things from God’s perspective. His past, his present circumstances, and the future, all take on heightened significance in the light of Christ and his eternal purposes. This is an inspiring passage to begin the New Year, incorporating our church text for 2008: “Let us press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of us.” Paul inspires us see the big picture, to press on and to strain towards all that God has yet in store for us.
6.30 pm – Communion Prayer & Praise service led by Steve Fenton, who will be preaching on:
God’s Presence on the Journey - Exodus 33:12-17
We begin our season of prayer (January to Easter) by sharing communion together and reflecting on part of the Old Testament journey. God instructed Moses to move the people on but Moses replied, “If your Presence does not go with us do not send us up from here.” Our prayer for 2008, as we enter a time of transition for the church, is that God’s Presence goes with us, that he leads the way, and instructs us as we go.
Sunday 13 January 2008
9.15 and 11.00 am - All-Age spot with Sarah Benham, then Bernard Chandler leading and Steve Fenton preaching
As one who had authority - Mark 1:21-39
We begin a new series in Mark’s gospel with Jesus teaching in the synagogue at the beginning of his public ministry. “The people were amazed because he taught as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law” (v. 22). In a world where authority is so often abused, usurped or ignored, we take a closer look at what Jesus’ authority means for us.
6.30 pm – Colin Yarker leading and Dawid Konotey-Ahulu preaching
Return of the Prodigal Son - Luke 15
One of Jesus’ best known parables, this account of a young man who loses his way packs a huge punch. Betrayal, Arrogance, Despair and Failure followed by Repentance, Reconciliation and Forgiveness. It’s a demonstration of God’s limitless grace. This message speaks to us of God’s love for us wherever we are and whatever we have done.
