The Open Secret - Mark 4:10-25
Through the use of parables Jesus reveals, and at the same time conceals, the nature of God’s Kingdom. With the coming of Jesus, the nature of God’s Kingdom has become an open secret which people either believe or reject (vs. 15-20). Those who are in on the secret (11) have great potential to see God’s Kingdom grow, if only they grasp the privilege and magnitude of what he has entrusted to them.
6.30 pm – Youth service. Speaker: Michael Hunter
Mission on our Doorstep - Acts 1:1-8
In his final instructions Jesus tells his followers that they are to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. “Jerusalem” can be considered a euphemism for, ‘exactly where you are.’ This evening we will explore what it means to be Jesus’ witness ‘exactly where you are’, what mission on our doorstep looks like, and what it means to make disciples.

Wrestling with God - Genesis 32: 22-32
Jacob had been on the run from a past dominated by the need to be in control, and had been fighting a losing battle with God to retain control over his future. Though he wasn’t satisfied with what he had, he wasn’t willing to trust God for the future. By the end of this encounter with God we find Jacob far weaker in himself, but far stronger spiritually.
Some of us are wrestling with God, over things that have happened in the past, over things he’s asking us to change, over his call on our lives, and over the future. Let’s take hold of God, in prayer, and not let go until we know he has touched us, forgiven us, changed us and blessed us.
Sunday 10 February

A heart for God and People Mark 7:1-8
Israel’s leaders had a long history of worshipping God “correctly” whilst neglecting their responsibility to people (Ezek. 34). In Jesus’ words, “They honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Mark 7:6). Today’s passage inspires us to make people, not appearances and tradition, a priority, and continue Jesus’ quest, “to seek and to save what was lost.”
6.30 pm – Bernard Chandler leading and Carey White preaching.
Mission Possible Luke 14:25-35, Matthew 28:16-20
From the Old Testament through Jesus’ ministry and beyond to the days of the early Church, the message of mission and witnessing is recorded. And the mission imperative is emphasised in Jesus’ ministry – to “make disciples”. The question then arises, but how? We read in the gospels and what follows the twofold aspect of mission:
Mission accomplished – by Jesus
Mission possible – by us, His followers
