Daniel in the Lions’ Den Daniel 6
Daniel is one of the great figures of Old Testament history. He stands on the promises of God and faces a pack of lions. God says He cares about us even more than a mother cares for her nursing child – if such a thing is possible. Daniel believes God’s word and is delivered from certain death. Daniel’s God is our God and He cares as much for us as He did for Daniel.
6.30 pm – Jenny Evans leading first part, Margaret Colville leading Communion service and preaching.
A Hope and a Future Jeremiah 29:4-14
This is an attempt to share just a few of the insights from the Baptist Union Assembly, with its emphasis on:
Responsibility, as God’s children, to care for His world and its people
Repentance, in the areas in which we so often fail; and finally
the reminder of His promise of Renewal. Ultimately our hope is not in material things but in the amazing knowledge that we matter and are valued by God Himself.
Sunday 8 June
9.15 & 11 am – David Collett leading and Steve Fenton preaching
Your kingdom come Daniel 7
God gave Daniel a dream - a dream that represented future hope for all generations. It incorporated a broad sweep of history from the time of Daniel to the end of the world. Though we may not understand every detail the message is crystal clear – God’s control of history is absolute. This is a faith-building chapter, inspiring us in times of uncertainty not to waver but to have absolute confidence in the God who has secured our salvation.
6.30 pm – Steve Fenton leading and Richard Harvey (Tutor at All Nations Christian College) preaching
Knowing Christ Philippians 3:10 - 4:1
Knowing Christ is the Christian's supreme goal, and Paul shares from his own experience the task, toil and triumph of a life enriched with the knowledge of God’s love in Jesus. How many of us find the Christian life, or life in general, a struggle? In this passage Paul shows not only that suffering has a purpose in our lives, but also that we can come through suffering to greater glory the other side. It’s a message of encouragement and a sharpening of our faith for all who wonder what to do when the going gets tough!
Sunday 15 June
9.15 & 11.00 am – Communion Services led by Steve Fenton, Dean Finnie preaching
Out of the comfort zone Deuteronomy 32:1-4 & 8-12
Sometimes, just as the eagle stirs up its nest and pushes the fledglings out to learn to fly, so sometimes God pushes us out of our comfort zone for our own benefit. But God also promises to shield, guard and care for us, and catch and carry us when we fear failure. This beautiful song of Moses reveals something of God’s firm but tender dealings with us.
6.30 pm – Evening Worship Steve Fenton leading, Azar Ajaj from Nazareth Baptist Church . . . Preaching
Turning limited resources into plenty John 6 1-15
Jesus used problems that people faced to glorify God and meet their needs. Today God challenges us with problems - if we trust Him, He can use these to bring glory to Himself.
Sunday 22 June
9.15 & 11.00 am – Don Morgan leading and Steve Fenton preaching
A secure future Daniel 8
Daniel’s vision in chapter 8 was still future and it greatly troubled him. For us, standing on the other side of the prophecy, much of it is history and therefore immensely reassuring. It demonstrates the reliability of God’s word, and seeing history unfold exactly as God said it would gives us great confidence that our future and salvation, in Christ, are totally secure.
6.30 pm – Colin Yarker leading, Paul Davies preaching
Standing firm in the Lord Philippians 4:1-9
Paul exhorts the Philippians to “stand firm in the Lord” (1). How are they to do this? He encourages them to stand firm in unity (2-3), to stand firm in rejoicing (4-7) and to stand firm in having the right attitudes (8) and actions (9). In this time of transition in our church, how are we to stand firm in the Lord?
Sunday 29 June

– A journey through the life of Elijah – led by Sarah Benham
6.30 pm – Jo Pierce leading and Steve Fenton preaching
Content in Christ Philippians 4: 10-23
There are many opinions about what will make us content, and most involve just a little bit more – a bit more money, status, leisure, etc. The apostle Paul learned the secret of being content in any and every situation (v12), a contentment which stemmed from confidence in God’s power: “I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (v13), and confidence in God’s provision: “My God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (v19). Paul’s secret is one that is well worth learning.
