Sunday 6 June
am How to make a Disciple Matthew 28:19-20
Michael Hunter
We have been called by Jesus to go and make disciples. So what does that look like? Who am I supposed to disciple and how do I do it? Those are the questions we will answer this morning together.
pm What does it really mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Ephesians 5:15-21
David Lockwood
A pamphlet at a conference challenges "carnal Christians" to embark on the "Spirit-filled life" by confessing their sins and presenting every area of their lives to God. While the intention behind the teaching is commendable, the theology and terminology upon which this is based is in need of re-examination in the light of Scripture.
Sunday 13 June
am The calling Luke 5:1-11
David Lockwood
When we read the Bible and look at those whom God has called, we find Moses, who thought that the call must have been misdirected because he was not eloquent but slow of speech and tongue; Isaiah, who protested that he was a man of unclean lips; Jeremiah, who did not know how to speak because he was only a youth; and Paul, whose thorn in the flesh must have been a burden heavy for body and mind. We can sometimes let our inadequacies become a stumbling block to fulfilling what God has purposed for our lives.
pm “As for you, my son...” 1 Chronicles 28:9
Dawid Konotey-Ahulu
“As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve
Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches
all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts.”
David is leaving the throne of Israel to his son, Solomon, and in this inspiring address he gives his son wise words of advice which still resonate for us several thousand years later. Ultimately, it is only in knowing and serving God that we can find true peace and purpose in life.

am Work: 9-5 or 24/7? Proverbs 31:10-31
Whether our work is paid or unpaid, at home, in the community, or at church, work is an issue for all of us. Work matters to God - it’s a good thing, and should be part of our worship and witness. Proverbs gives three general principles for us if we want to be wise in our work:
(1) work hard, (2) work honestly, and (3) work helpfully.
We’ll explore these principles briefly, but helpful resources and reading can be found at http://www.licc.org.uk/engaging-with-work.
pm Jesus and film: “Spiderman 2”
Rarely does a sequel outdo a prequel, but this popular film added some big themes into the content of its story. Tonight we are picking up the issues to do with calling, identity and forgiveness and asking what the Bible has to say about these themes in relation to the way we live our lives today.
Sunday 27 June
am Wisdom or Folly? Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. When life has gone pear shaped and it seems out of control, how do we live out trusting the Lord with all our heart? What does that look like? How can I face all life sends my way and not let it overwhelm me?
pm The crossing of Jordan Joshua 3:1-17
The people of Israel are about to enter the Promised Land, but they have to overcome an obstacle - the crossing of the river Jordan. Under Joshua’s leadership, the people move forward expecting a miracle to take place. Joshua demonstrates a fearless faith in God; he focuses not on the flood, but on God. The miracle is that waters part and the people cross through the dry land. God makes a way when there seems to be no way.
