9.15 & 11.00 am Christian Community 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28
(Daniel Hatfield)
Someone once wrote, “If the Gospel was a meteor, then the church could be described as the crater that was left by its impact”. But how does the meteor-like impact of the person and message of Jesus Christ affect the shape of the crater we know as our church community? What do we learn in Paul’s closing comments to the Thessalonians about what this crater should be like?
6.30 pm David - overcoming blind spots 2 Samuel 11 & 12
(Margaret Colville)
Our final Old Testament character in the “overcoming” series is David, that amazing super-hero of 3000 years ago; courageous shepherd; gifted military commander; legendary outlaw; magnificent king; musician; poet; lover. Yet with all that he had going for him, even this amazing larger than life character had his blind spots. What then can we learn from him, both in the self-awareness needed to recognise our own blind spots and the strategies by which we can overcome them?
Sunday 9 November

(Geoffrey Williams)
Love in action – Gaius
Pride and prejudice – Diotrephes

6.30 pm Fit Finances
(Michael Hunter)
This week we begin a new short series, “Getting Healthy Together”, considering our attitude, as Christians, to our finances, our workplace and our relationships. This evening Michael Hunter begins by speaking about how to have healthy finances in an unstable economy.
Sunday 16 November
9.15 & 11.00 am Dynamic Faith 2 Thessalonians 1:1-12
(Steve Fenton)
In the midst of struggle the Thessalonians’ faith and love is flourishing (vs. 3 & 4). Paul writes to encourage them to pursue God’s call (v11), knowing that when the Lord returns they will be in God’s presence forever, whilst those who reject the Gospel will find themselves consciously away from God forever (v9). This chapter inspires us to press on through difficulties, to grow in love and faith, to fulfil God’s purposes and look forward to the Lord’s return and eternity in God’s presence.
6.30 pm The Christian in the workplace Matthew 5:13-16
(Steve Fenton)
Jesus told His followers to go and share the Good News of reconciliation to God through Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:19-20). But many of us struggle to know where to start, little realising we have opportunities everyday in the work-place to communicate the Good News through the lives we live and the words we use. This evening we will hear firsthand what it means to live out the Christian life where most of us spend the majority of our time - in the workplace.
Sunday 23 November
9.15 & 11.00 am Standing Firm 2 Thessalonians 2
Steve Fenton leading and preaching.
The Thessalonians had become unsettled by false teaching about Jesus’ return. Paul urges them to hold on to his original teaching that first a “man of lawlessness” (anti-Christ) will appear, followed by the breakdown of law and order and hostile opposition to God and the Church. But in spite of these future difficulties Paul remained composed, confident in God’s ability to bring them through as they stood firm, trusting in the Gospel of Christ.
6.30 pm Looking at Marriage
Steve Fenton and Dawid Konotey-Ahulu leading, Michael Hunter speaking
We continue our evening mini-series by taking at the subject of marriage. This is a huge topic, not only relevant to those who are married, but with implications for family life and society as a whole, and important to look at together.
Sunday 30 November
9.15 and 11.00 am Needed – Contagious Christians 1 Peter 1:1-12
Steve Brady - Principal Moorlands Bible College
Christianity – dull, boring and irrelevant? Can be! Step this way for the antidote.
6.30 pm Fractured Family 2 Samuel 13 & 14
Steve Fenton
This passage reveals the tragedy of how something that happened in the past can alienate members of the same family. But it also shows how despite pain and regret, there remains in each of us a desire to reconnect with a mother a father, a brother a sister, a son a daughter. In a world littered with fractured families the story of David and Absolom can inspire us to somehow get past the past and reconnect with a family member.
