Sunday 4 October
am A Hope Fulfilled and an Immeasurable Gift Zechariah 3 & 6
David Lockwood
Focusing upon one of Zechariah’s visions and a sign-act prophecy, we are being invited in for a closer look at God’s restoration plan for the new community returning from Babylon. The people found themselves in desperate times without a place to worship, no king to rule over them and a priesthood unable to minister before God. Within the two prophetic messages are glimpses of a greater plan at work, an inspiring view of God’s character and hope for the people of God both then and now.
pm Knowing God Psalm 51
Dawid Konotey-Ahulu
Sunday 11 October
am To Feast or Fast? Zechariah 7:1-6; 8:1-8 & 18-23
Steve Fenton
The question in the passage is, “Should we fast?” (v.3). God’s response is, ‘When you fasted in the past, was it really for me (v.5) and when you feasted was it not for yourselves?” (v.6). The passage goes on to say, whether God’s people feasted or fasted in the past they put themselves, not God, at the centre. In the good times they were self-indulgent, in the bad times, self pitying. But God says, I will do a new thing - I will return, I will dwell amongst you, I will save you - pointing to the Gospel and beyond, to the ultimate return of Christ.
pm Trusting God Romans 8:16-39
Ed Daniels
The theme “Trusting God” may give rise to deeply personal responses, no doubt shaped by the challenges we have faced as individuals. However, we can get so preoccupied with our experiences of this life, that we forget God’s bigger picture: that He is surely bringing about an awesome, glorious future, which will eclipse any experience of this life! Through Christ Jesus, our inclusion is so secure, that we can look forward to it with radical confidence, whatever life may throw at us.
Sunday 18 October

pm Philip and the Eunuch Acts 8:26-40
Philip’s encounter with the Ethiopian Eunuch takes us on a journey where someone searching meets a person who knows where they are going. Two very different people going in different directions meet to bring about one life changing moment that draws them together. This passage not only focuses upon someone coming to know Christ but also highlights what it means to follow Christ.

In a town where you don’t come across half-dead guys at the side of the road on your way to work, does this famous parable still have something relevant and insightful to say to us?
