Week of Prayer – Monday 25th to Sunday 31st March
We believe that God is calling us to set aside Holy Week as a Week of Prayer, as he seeks to bring us to a place of greater freedom and prepares us for what lies ahead – both for us as individuals and as a church family. We know that this will be a powerful and significant week in the life of our church. We would love every person at Hertford Baptist Church to come along at some point during the week, so here are all the details for your diary:
- 6am Prayer email: if you are on our Connect mailing list, this will be sent to you automatically each morning with the Bible verse for the day and prayer topics. If you do not currently receive Connect, do contact the church office.
- 7am Prayer on Zoom: Praying together before work from Monday 25th through to Thursday 28th.
- 9am Prayer and Worship: The staff team meet every day to pray and worship together – join us as we gather in the Prayer Room for 30 minutes each morning (Monday-Good Friday). Come along after the school run, or before you head off to other activities.
- 12noon Prayer – our normal Wednesday prayers will be extended to cover the whole week (Monday-Good Friday). We will meet in Lounge 15 or the Prayer Room on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday and Good Friday, we will meet in the church.
Holy Week Evening Reflections – Monday 25th March – Thursday 28th March
These evenings will be a powerful time to come together to encounter Jesus, as we journey through the events of Holy Week over the 4 evenings. There will be opportunity for worship, prayer, reflection, and a short thought from the Bible every evening Monday to Thursday (including Communion on Maundy Thursday) starting at 7:45pm.
Good Friday Family Gathering – Friday 29th March at 10am
Join us as we journey through the story of Easter, with craft, singing, videos and lots of fun. We are so excited to have a real donkey coming along too! Please remember to bring a flower with you to help decorate our Easter cross.
The gathering is aimed at children aged 0-11 and their families, and every child will receive a free activity book to take home. Afterwards there will be hot cross buns and Easter treats for everyone.
We look forward to seeing you there – use the front garden entrance on Port Hill (the donkey will be on the grass outside).
Join the Good Friday Walk of Witness in town – Friday 29th March
Organised by Hertford District Churches Together, the Walk of Witness is a simple and easy opportunity to bless those who are out shopping or visiting the town centre on Good Friday.
We will meet at the Methodist Church on Ware Road at 10am and then walk through the town centre, handing out hot cross buns to people as we go. We will finish at the United Reford Church on Cowbridge. Along the route there will also be moments when we stop to hear the Easter story read from the Bible and to sing a hymn.
If you are not bringing a family to the Easter gathering at church, then do join us on the Walk of Witness instead.
Easter Sunday – All Age Celebration – Sunday 31st March
Easter Sunday will be a fantastic celebration, as we come together as a church family to rejoice that Jesus is alive! At 9am, we will gather in the Hall for 30 mins of praise and prayer. Then, at 9.30am, we are inviting the whole church family to enjoy an Easter breakfast together (tea/coffee, pastries, and hot cross buns!), served in the hall.
At 10.15am we will move into the church for a 1-hour all-age celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. There will be no tea and coffee after the gathering, but there will be chocolate eggs!
